DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Douglas natural gas officials are urging the public notify them of any gas leaks in the area.

Contractors repaired a gas leak this morning in the 600 block of East College Park Drive after a homeowner notified city officials last week of a gas smell near her home. They classified it as a grade three leak, meaning it could be monitored and re-evaluated up to 15 months later. Local gas officials say they should be notified immediately no matter how bad the leak may be.

"We do want people our citizens and customers if they smell gas to please call us because we're not on every street every day, and that's the only way we know about these things," said Michael Hudson.

Hudson says annual leak surveys are done in high traffic areas such as business districts, schools, and churches.
