VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Tuesday is shop with a firefighter day in Valdosta.

11 local children who lost some or all of their belongings due to a fire this year will get to go on a shopping spree with Valdosta firefighters.

"We try to find individuals, kids, that have been affected by fire during the year and we try to carry 'em on a shopping spree," said Valdosta Fire Marshall John Wisenbhaer.

"It's just a way of reaching back to help them, to uplift them a little bit," Wisenbhaer continued.

The kids will all meet outside the Walmart on Norman Drive at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night. They'll get their picture taken with the firefighters and then each kid will get to go through Walmart with one of the firefighters and buy $100 worth of whatever they want.

When asked about the reactions of the kids, Wisenbhaer said "Some of 'em you would think they had a thousand dollar gift they were getting. It's really a lot of fun."

This is the fourth year the Valdosta Fire Department has held shop with a firefighter day. All of the money for the kids was donated by Walmart and people in Valdosta.
