Convenience store robbed

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police are scouring the southside of the city this morning for a man who robbed the Haley Food Mart about 9:30.

Detectives and the crime unit are on the scene near South Slappey and Gordon Avenue, across from the Harvey's Supermarket.

Haley owner Sonny Patel says he thinks the robber came from an area behind the store. He said the masked man pointed a gun at a customer and at the clerk, and took money from the cash register and ran away.

Patel will reopen the store when the police release the building.

He says crime is a cost of doing business but it is his livelihood, and the store will remain in business.

WALB's Jim Wallace will have more on the manhunt later.
