Hurricanes off to hot start, earn Top 25 ranking

For the third time in 4 years, the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team is ranked in the top 25.

Senior guard Jamon Hawkins doesn't feel think it will be added pressure to the team.

"It feels good to be ranked again," Hawkins said. "It's really not any added pressure because we know what we have to do to everyday to come in an be successful. We know that we are going to have a target on our backs so that just edges us to work even harder."

Right now the team is 9-0 with their two most recent wins coming against Clarke Atlanta and Georgia College. Senior forward Darryl Davis earned player of the week honors for his play in the contests, avaeraging 14 points and 10 rebounds. He says the key to the team has its togetherness on and off the court.

"Just together man, like last year we were together as a team," Davis said. "But this year I feel like we do more together like outside of the court and it generates to here."

Davis is one of five players averaging double figures and head coach Mike Leeder says their balance has been instrumental to their hot start.

"We share the ball very well," Leeder said. "We play nine guys, we share the ball probably is our best attribute and when we are good, like I said, rebound and defend we're awful hard to beat."

Their next game will be Dec. 14th at Clayton State.
