Superintendent search seeks public input at Monday hearing

Posted: Updated:

Dougherty County residents are getting the chance to help school board members determine what kind of candidate should be running the school system.

The board is hosting a Public Listening Session at 5 p.m. Monday to help focus the superintendent search.

It's moderated by a Georgia School Board Association representative. The goal is to help board members choose the best replacement for interim superintendent Dr. David Mosely once his contract expires in June 2014.

"I really do hope that the people that really care about the educational system here will come and speak out and give the board and the Georgia School Board Association an idea of what kind of person they're looking for, said Interim Superintendent Mosely. "One that would fit well into the community and be able to perform."

Board members say selecting the right superintendent is the most important decision facing the school system. Mosely took over as the interim superintendent last January.

Several board members have praised Mosely for his efforts to turn a troubled system around.

The school board will hold its regular meeting following the public hearing.
