2013 Service Awards honors Dougherty Co. employees

Dougherty county employees get a little recognition for their hard work this year.  Friday, County commissioners hosted the 2013 Employees Service Awards Program for the county's 600-plus workers.

Those who have worked for the county for between 5 and 35 years got gift certificates and placards.  Leaders say the recognition helps boost moral after workers haven't seen pay raises in years.

"In the last five or six years, of course, there's not been raises and things have been very difficult," said Chairman Jeff Sinyard, Dougherty County Board of Commissioners.  "But we've been very fortunate not to have had to terminate folks.  We've had a combination of furloughs, you name it.  And this year there was just enough money to do some things for our folks on an annual basis for this Christmas."

The ceremony finished with a raffle and lunch.  Employees from the Dougherty County Tax Office, Sheriff's Office, Police Department, District Attorney's Office and the Public Works Department were among those recognized.
