ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The City of Albany is building affordable new homes for senior citizens. The new duplexes will sit on this vacant land on North Broadway that the city owns.

The first phase of the project includes 10 units. Phases 2 and 3 will each include 6 units.

Each duplex will cost $70,000 to $75,000 to build.

"All of the unites will be energy efficient suitable and compatible to persons who are handicap or disabled," said Shelena Hawkins, Community Economic Development.

Funding for the project will come from the federal government. The city will start accepting bids this month. The duplexes should be finished by June.
