Students hope to scoop up sales for downtown business

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Business students at Albany State University are working to boost business for a downtown ice cream shop.

Students are planing to hold a cash mob at "Cool Scoops" on Friday from 12pm until 2pm.

This isn't the student's first go around with the venture.

Earlier this year, a "cash mob" attracted nearly 200 customers to "Our Daily Bread" another downtown business.

Organizers say they hope to top that turnout.  They say the initiative benefits students as well as the business involved.

"Everybody benefits, for example when we did the cash mob earlier this year the owner said that the business saw it's biggest day in terms of revenue," said Marking club advisor Maurice Elliard.

Elliard says students are focusing specifically on the downtown are and the project gives them a chance to apply the management and marketing skills they are learning.
