CHULA, GA (WALB) -

More than 100 Christmas trees from a south Georgia farm are on their way to military families.

National Guard troops helped cut down the trees at Brumby and White Christmas Tree Farm in Chula Thursday.

South Georgia donors paid for the trees as part of Trees for Troops. They're being shipped to various places in Georgia to make sure military families have a Merry Christmas.

"I think its incumbent to of every citizen of this country to totally support our military and all activities that they can do . This is where I get my joy out of it is knowing that I'm helping and participating in supporting the troops of this country," said Bill Brookerd.

"We really appreciate the community. Can't say enough about them. They always go our their way to support us and we really appreciate that," said Major Thomas Bennett.

This is the sixth year of the program. The trees will be delivered to families connected to National Guard units in Dublin, Tifton, Cordele, Macon and Forsyth.
