ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Albany burglary victims tell us they are on alert heeding a warning from police to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

Albany Police issued a residential burglary alert for seven blocks of the city following a series of home break-ins.

Vanessa King looked at the backdoor of her home on 9th Avenue, which she found broken down Monday afternoon. She said the entire frame of the door was laying on her couch.

"My deadbolt was still locked and the bottom lock was still locked," said King. They apparently kicked the whole door in."

Nothing was missing, and King's dogs were by her back fence. She thinks she scared the burglar away when she drove up.

"I've never had any problems in this neighborhood," said King. "I thought it was a safe place for me and my children. But I'm not sure anymore."

Albany Police issued a Residential Burglary Alert Wednesday afternoon, saying burglaries have been reported in 7 blocks in the city limits, including blocks on 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Avenues.

Fran Hawkins husband's car was broken into recently at their home on 8th Avenue. Her neighbor's home across the street was burglarized Monday. Now she said she will take all her tools inside when she finishes working on cars.

"Yes sir, I'm scared to leave my stuff outside now," said Hawkins. "I'm having to move my tools and my parts inside because I can't afford to have things stolen from me."

Hawkins grew up in her home, and said she is concerned now with reports of crime in the block surrounding her.

"You'd think living in the heart of the city you would be safe, but apparently not," noted Hawkins.

King had her door repaired, but this break in has her planning to move.

Police want people living in those Albany neighborhoods to know about recent burglaries in the area, and take steps to protect their property. They urge everyone to report suspicious activity and for emergencies call 911.
