Lake side burglary suspect caught in traffic stop

LAKE BLACKSHEAR, GA (WALB) -

The Crisp County Sheriff's Office has arrested 21 year old Owen Black of Americus in connection to seven residential break-in's around the Lake Blackshear area.

On Thanksgiving Eve around 5:30pm, deputies spotted Black and conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody. During an overnight investigation from Thanksgiving Eve to Thanksgiving Day, firearms, televisions, and several other valuables were recovered.

Some of the items recovered were the result of other break-in's in the Sumter County area of the lake.

Sheriff's detectives say some of the items were hidden,  pawned or sold on the streets. They  stress that if anyone is found to have any of the stolen items in possession, they can be charged with possession of receiving stolen property.

Chief Deputy Billy Hancock says the homes that were burglarized were weekend retreats for residents; meaning they were vacant much of the time.

Black will be charged with DUI, four counts of burglary, one count of possession of firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of tools during commission of a crime.

Black is currently held in the Crisp County Detention Center. This case is still under investigation for other suspects and stolen property.
