VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Today is a "sweet" day at Moody Air Force Base.

That means a whole lot of Airmen and women are going to be getting a whole lot of home made treats.

"I think we collected over a thousand dozen cookies," said Kim Franks, a volunteer.

Her husband is the Wing Commander at the base and she said she loves volunteering at the event because it's important for the families on base to take care of each other.

Volunteers from the community and the base packed the base chapel in order to pack Tupperware containers with cookies and candies for the airmen and women.

"We have about 700 men and women who live in the dorms and this may be their first Christmas away from home," said Anne Ramer, another one of the base wives volunteering at the event.

"We want to bring them a little bit of cookies and cards and let them know that we really care about them being here," Ramer added.

Kim Franks said all of the volunteers spent hours in the kitchen baking the goodies they made for the drive, but hopes the goodies will bring twice that many hours of joy to the men and women who will receive them.

Judging by the reactions of the airmen and women when they get their cookies, her hopes are well founded.

"Everyone loves getting the cookies and they talk about it year in and year out how much fun its," said Ramer.

And that is the sweetest part of all.
