LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Shortly before 11:00 Monday night, search crews called of their manhunt for a convicted killer who's been on the run for two weeks.

Late into the night, law enforcers maintained a strong presence near Oak Hill Dairy on Highway 19 in Lee County as a State Patrol helicopter with night vision equipment flew over the area.

They were there all day after dairy workers spotted 58 year-old Bobby Smith Monday morning. Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals said, "We got a perimeter set up and had it set up since about 8:30 this morning, and we held the perimeter. And we had the helicopter out here again tonight with the FLIR unit hoping we're gonna hoping we're gonna pick up something and be able to take him into custody."

Smith failed to return to the Albany Transitional Center from his job on November 17th. He was wrapping up his sentence there for a 1987 murder conviction in Dekalb County.

Sheriff Rachals wants people in the area to be on the lookout for Smith and call 911 if they think they see him.
