CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Community leaders in Crisp County are planning a day to honor their ailing sheriff.

Crisp County and Cordele officials designated December 6th as Sheriff Donnie Haralson Day.      Sheriff Haralson's family will serve as the Grand Marshals for the Cordele Christmas Parade Friday night. Sheriff Haralson is battling brain cancer. Organizers say he deserves this day for his decades of service to the community.

"Most of all we just thank him for what he's done. He is a good Christian man, and he loves his family, he loves his God, he loves this community and we love him," said Monica Simmons.

The Christmas parade will begin at City Hall in Downtown Cordele and end at 15th avenue. The parade will start at 6:00 p.m. Friday. A prayer vigil for Sheriff Haralson will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.
