Tifton soup kitchen receives much needed donation

A Tifton soup kitchen operating on roughly 50% less supplies this year got a much needed donation for those in need.

Mayor Jamie Cater presented a $1,000 donation from Golden Living, a collection of recovery companies, to the Tifton Soup Kitchen Wednesday.

"We do hope that when people see this that they will be encouraged to not just the soup kitchen, but some of your own non-profits and things to help people especially in this Thanksgiving time," said Cater.

Mayor Cater says the contribution will provide several more meals, and hopes it will inspire others to get involved. The kitchen provides between 27,000 - 30,000 meals every year, but has struggled with supplies in the wake of the economic downturn.
