WALB launched a new crime fighting initiative last week called Crimestoppers Street Sweep.

We teamed up with Crimestoppers and four law enforcement agencies to get criminals off the streets.

We aired dozens of mug shots and asked you to call in tips.

The success of the effort hinged on viewer participation, and it was enormous.

60 seconds after our news started, the phones began ringing; and over the course of 90 minutes, you provided 100 tips to officers on where criminals could be picked up.

That's an average of one call every 55 seconds.

It was tremendously successful, and officers are still out on the streets tracking down criminals because of your tips.

Thank you for participating and working with us to make our town safer.

WALB is committed to continuing this program in 2014 and we  hope we can count on your help.
