Robbery at gunpoint caught on camera

The Dougherty County Police are on the lookout for a gunman who robbed the Pitt Stop Convenience Store Saturday night.

Surveillance video show the man running into the Pitt Stop armed with a gun. He then demands money from the cash register.

"He attempted to get the money out the register. When he had trouble getting it out, he took the whole cash drawer," Lt. Chad Kirkpatrick, Dougherty County Police.

The man points his gun at the clerk. Police say she handled the situation correctly.

"She did comply, which is the proper thing to do when you are being robbed. She done what she was told and gave him the money as he demanded," said Kirkpatrick.

The robber almost left some money behind, but the clerk handed him the rest. He got away with about $300.

Once he left the store, DCP say the armed robber ran towards a mobile home park behind the Pit Stop.

Investigators say it's hard to identify the man because his face was covered and he was wearing gloves. But they want people to be on the lookout for the robber that's still on the loose.

"5'10, slim build, black male. He was wearing blue jeans a gray in color long sleeve button up shirt," said Kirkpatrick.

Once he's caught, he'll face a long list of charges.

"Armed robbery, aggravated assault for pointing the pistol at the clerk and various things, depending if he's a convicted felon or not," said Kirkpatrick.

Investigators have very few leads and no persons of interest. This case is still under investigation. They're asking the public to help them identify this man. The gun or money was not recovered. Police say the clerk was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dougherty County Police or Crime Stoppers at 436-TIPS. A reward could be offered if valid information leads to an arrest.
