Alabama rolls over Chattanooga, 49-0

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Crimson Tide dominated in their game against the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday, despite somewhat of a sluggish start.

Chattanooga received the ball first and the Alabama defense deftly put them away with a 4th and 5 at the Chatt 32. The punt was received by Alabama's Christion Jones, but Jones fumbled the ball to the Mocs' Sema'je Kendall at the Alabama 34. The Mocs failed to capitalize on the good fortune and were intercepted by Alabama's Trey DePriest on an attempt to convert the 4th down.

The Tide offense was quick to end their first drive of the game. In 5-plays, Alabama covered 83 yards to the endzone. Kevin Norwood had the big play of the drive with a 50-yard gain from an A.J. McCarron pass. Kenyan Drake took the scoring play with a 13-yard rush and Cade Foster added the extra point.

On their next possession, Alabama tried to convert a 4th and 4, but failed to make a gain. This kept the scoring to a single touchdown in the first quarter, but Alabama came on strong in the second. Three touchdowns were added while the Mocs couldn't seem to find an offensive foothold. The first drive saw Derrick Henry rush for 27 yards before making another rush for 5 yards into the endzone. After the Mocs were forced to punt, Christion Jones ran the ball 75 yards for another touchdown. On the third score, Alabama found great field position from a blocked field goal attempt by the Mocs and covered the needed 42 yards in 5 plays. Kevin Norwood made the score with a 28-yard pass reception. The game went into halftime with Alabama holding 28 unanswered points.

The opening drive of the second half was more of the same for Alabama. The endzone was found in 7-plays over 62 yards and Amari Cooper made the touchdown after taking a pass 38 yards downfield. Cade Foster's kick was good.

Alabama's backup QB, Blake Sims, took over on the next possession and led a 6-play drive over 63 yards for another TD. On a 1st and 10, Chris Black broke free for a 31 yard rush on the scoring play. Cade Foster added the extra point to make the score 42-0.

The Tide added one more touchdown in the 4th quarter after Chattanooga made a very tough fumble which Alabama's Eddie Jackson carried back to the Chattanooga 6-yard line. One rush by Dee Hart covered the 6 yards and gave Alabama the score. Adam Griffith took the kick and brought the game to the final score of 49-0.

Next week, Alabama takes on Auburn in a very intense Iron Bowl. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
