CAIRO, GA (WALB) -

Pelham High School Beta Club is helping feed hungry children around the world.

This is the tenth year the club has worked with Kids Against Hunger.

As rice is added to these tubs, more bags are created to feed families in need. The Beta members prepared meals to help kids against hunger and the process was no easy task.

"We make little bags of food for kids that are hungry and aren't as fortunate as us," said Cheyenne Brooks PHS junior and VP of Beta Club.

"Especially since we have a lot more people this year we get a lot more done and we've just made a lot of progress," said Rebekah Smith PHS senior and President of Beta Club.

All of the members had smiles on their faces and were happy to help children they'll never meet.

"That we just get to help people because we don't understand what they're going through. I mean it just feels good to help somebody in need," said Brooks.

"I've been doing this for three years so it's a lot of fun and I really look forward to it," said Smith.

Providing a meal for hungry children is a great gesture, but to supply a warm meal during the holidays make it much more meaningful.

"I hope it would mean a lot to the family and enjoy having this food especially around the holidays," said Pamela Halliday PHS senior and Beta Club secretary.

To get the job done, each student has a different task.

"Package the meals in one of the four stations, or they can weigh the mixture or they can seal the mixture and we have guys that replenish constantly as you run out of each of the ingredients and we have guys that package all the pallets and shrink roll it and wrap it and get it ready to send off," said Sara Wingate Senior Beta Club Sponsor.

"They come in here with forklifts, lift them up and load them on a truck and send them off to whoever needs them," said Brett Bailey PHS junior Beta Club Member.

The students exceeded their goal and made 166 boxes of food.

Those boxes will prove nearly 36-thousand meals. Most will be shipped to Romania and the Philippines.
