ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Fire Department is warning the public about a man who is claiming to be a firefighter, selling raffle tickets.

Albany Fire Chief James Carswell said they have had reports of the man selling raffle tickets at several local bars last week.

The reports said the man claimed to be an Albany Firefighter, selling raffle tickets offering a pistol as the prize.

The Chief wants to warn the public that this is a scam. "We are not involved in any kind of raffle, what so ever.  And we want to caution people, if they are approached.  Call us, because we want to talk to this individual," said Carswell.

Under Georgia law, it is a crime to impersonate a firefighter, just like impersonating a police officer.

It can also be a felony to sell phony raffle tickets.

Albany Firefighters ask that if anyone tries to sell you raffle tickets in their name, to call the police and report him.
