Arrests made in beating of Worth Co. man

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The GBI says warrants have been taken for three people who are charged with beating an elderly Worth County man.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Sylvester Office obtained criminal arrest warrants Thursday on three individuals in connection with the beating and robbery of Wendell Newell, a 79 year old Worth County resident. 

The Worth County Sheriff's Office was contacted after a neighbor found Mr. Newell unconscious inside his Woodcrest Road residence on November 18. 

Justin Ware, 28, has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Tool for the Commission of a Crime, misdemeanor Theft by Taking, and three counts of felony Theft by Taking.

Jesse James Mitchell, 29, was taken into custody in Albany.  He has been charged with one count of misdemeanor Theft by Taking and two felony counts of Theft by Taking.  He is being housed in the Worth County jail. 

Crystal Miles, 28, has been charged with one count of misdemeanor Theft by Taking, three counts of felony Theft by Taking, and one count of Robbery. 

Miles and Ware were booked into the Crisp County jail.   

Newell is in critical condition at a local hospital, where he is being treated.
