LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

The Second Harvest Food Bank's Valdosta branch is preparing to hand out thousands of food boxes just in time for Thanksgiving.

The food bank will begin handing out 20 pound boxes of food to people and families in need on Tuesday, November 26th, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Valdosta High School.

Eliza McCall, the food bank's Chief Marketing Officer, said they have close to 4,000 boxes ready to be handed out but that's still not enough to feed all of those in need in the Valdosta and Lowndes County communities.

"1 in 3 children across South Georgia won't go to bed with a full tummy tonight," McCall said. "1 in 4 people in South Georgia don't know where they'll get their next meal from," McCall also added.

Second Harvest is asking people to sponsor a food box for $5 so the food bank can make up some of the money they spend on the food boxes.

For more information about donating, or to volunteer, contact Second Harvest at (229) 244-2678 or visit www.feedingsga.org.
