ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

SOWEGA Council on Aging leaders celebrated their successes and talked about the challenges they faced this year.

The Council held its annual meeting Thursday afternoon. They had to deal with funding cuts based on new census numbers and because of sequestration, but they're excited that the long-awaited new senior center is almost ready to open.

"Many times people do not realize the services that the SOWEGA council on aging offers until they need a service, so when you come to a meeting like this, you get to hear many of the services that people don't always recognize," said Debbie Blanton, SOWEGA Council of Aging.

The new senior center will open in January.
