TERRELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

U.S. Marshals and officers from multiple counties in southwest Georgia are searching for a convicted killer in the Terrell/Lee County area.

The convict, identified as 58 year old Bobby Smith, was living at the Albany Transitional Center and failed to return.

Authorities say Smith escaped Sunday, and officers learned he was near Bronwood on Thursday.

A state trooper spotted him near the Kinchafoonee Creek bridge on Highway 118 near the Lee/ Terrell County line.

Officers began searching that area at 1:15 p.m., and have now employed the use of a helicopter with a thermal imager.

The Smith is described as black with light skin, 5'8", 220 lbs. and was wearing dark pants, and a tan corduroy jacket or hood.
