Leasing manager encourages community support to keep downtown post office

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The leasing manager of the old federal courthouse and post office building downtown is encouraging the community to take action to keep the post office.

The U.S. Post Office known as Federal Station signed a one year lease with Lone Star Equities through September 2014. The Leasing manager says the United States Postal Service has had a lack of communication with them on whether they will keep the post office there or move it.

"We need to pray and hope and write letters  telling our United States Postal Service that they need to stay in this facility to help with our community because I think this is very much needed and they've been here for over one hundred years," said Leasing Manager Frances Krack.

Krack says if the U.S. Postal Service decides to move on, there is a private individual interested in leasing that space as a full operational post office.
