ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Several people in Albany got a chance to sample healthy meals and educate themselves on the effects of diabetes.

The Mayor's office partnered with the Dougherty County school system and phoebe Putney memorial hospital for "Chefs on the Lawn."

People sampled healthy meals from several vendors including Westover High school culinary students and receive free health screenings.

Mayor Dorothy Hubbard says education is key to living a healthy life.

"Educating them to know about nutrition, empowering them to do more, to get more preventative kinds of check-ups and those kind of things, and then to motivate them to get up and move and do more exercise."

This is the third year the mayor's office put on this event.
