LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Limestone County jury could decide the fate of an Alabama State Trooper involved in a fatal crash as early as Thursday.

The jury deliberated for an hour Wednesday, after hearing the trooper's side of the story. In the third day of the trial, James Heath Moss took the stand to defend himself. Moss spent hours taking questions from both his attorneys and the state.

The trooper is charged with two counts of criminally-negligent homicide after his vehicle collided with another vehicle, killing Sarah and Jamie Gossett in 2011.

During Wednesday's testimony, Moss apologized to the victims' family, and said he thinks about what happened every day.

It was also revealed the trooper was responding to a call for a child with a head injury. Moss testified the Gossetts' vehicle came into his path as he was responding to the call.

His vehicle was traveling 120 miles per hour within 20 seconds of the crash, and was traveling at 51 mph upon impact.

At one point, the district attorney asked him if he was going so fast he couldn't stop the vehicle. Moss responded that he said he was there, saw what happened, knew what happened, and did everything to miss the Gossetts' vehicle.
