Mental health professionals attend health forum

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia's commissioner of behavioral health and developmental disabilities was in South Georgia this afternoon to answer questions about major changes in mental health care.

The city of Albany teamed up with area lawmakers to sponsor this mental health forum. One mental health professional who attended says it was beneficial for her, and she plans to share the information with colleagues.

"Definitely going to let the providers know what he came out and spoke to us about, so I've got providers waiting to hear, anxiously waiting, very excited to share the news with them," said Jamie Presley.

At the end of the year, the state will shut down Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville.      The state is trying to save money and direct more patients to clinics, group homes, and other less-restrictive community-based programs.
