ATHENS, GA (CBS46) -

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said preliminary autopsy results show that University of Georgia student Rebecca Greene was not the victim of foul play.

The 22-year-old was reported missing early Tuesday morning by her mother. According to investigators, her boyfriend called Greene's mother around 5:30 p.m. Monday and asked if he knew where she was.

Greene was discovered near The Plaza by an Athens-Clarke County officer searching the area where her phone was last detected. Police found Greene in the creek and a bike that had been left near the banks of the creek.

"I know that this morning her boyfriend asked my two roommates if they had seen her," Kelsey Girardot said. "He said he found her book bag and that's all we knew this morning until we saw the news."

Girardot lives across the street and said she saw Greene out occasionally but did not know her personally. Until investigators ruled there was no foul play, Girardot said she locked all of her windows and doors and was scared for her safety.

"We just didn't know what was going on," Girardot said.

According to the GBI, preliminary findings show her death was not a homicide.  Authorities say there was no trauma and no one else appears to have played a role in her death.

A final autopsy won't be completed for a few of weeks. Investigators said the final results will determine if Greene's death was a suicide or an accident.

Anyone having information regarding this investigation should call the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-613-3342.
