Friday afternoon, Wanda Spires was doing what she does most Fridays, cleaning up at Riverbend Baptist Church. As she was finishing up, she noticed something that made her heart sink.
"And I went in and I cleaned the bathroom, I had my broom which is right here and I started sweeping and what's when I noticed the puppet trailer gone," said Wanda Spires, church volunteer.
Church members use their popular puppet ministry to spread the Gospel around south Georgia.
"It was adult puppets, animal puppets, there was little girl puppets, little boy puppets, just all kinds of different kinds of puppets," said Spires.
All the volunteers have now is their memories of performances that the ministry shared over the last 6 years.
"I'm very much hurt to my heart, to know that my ministry that I actually started 6 years ago is gone," said Spires.
The church members hope to get their puppets and other equipment back so they can continue to use them to share the good news.
"Please bring our puppets back, we can forgive you for taking our trailer, but we would like to have it all back, but if you can't bring us the trailer, bring our puppets back," said Spires.
Senior Pastor Steve Pickern tells WALB his church is praying for those who currently have the church's belongings.
"But the main thing we want to do Josh is pray for these folks who took it and pray for their salvation because they need to be forgiven," said Steve Pickem, senior pastor.
Church leaders say they'll get busy planning a Christmas pageant to replace their annual Christmas puppet show. The tag number on that stolen trailer is TL4FD37.
