ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County Board of Education is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

The call for applicants comes just three weeks after the system appointed a committee to determine the qualifications necessary to fill the position.

Current Superintendent David Mosely is slated to continue with the system until June of 2014.

The candidate chosen will manage the 23 schools and five learning centers in the system, consisting of more than 2,000 staff members and more than 15,000 students, and oversee the school general fund budget of $120 million.

School system administrators ask that all applications be postmarked by Friday, January 24, 2014, or hand-delivered by 4:30 p.m. on that day.

Some school board members have already said they hope to begin interviewing candidates by mid-march.
