ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Several area agencies are working together to make sure families have plenty of food in their cabinets this holiday season.

Today more than 300 food baskets were given out to low income families. Food was also delivered to senior citizens around Albany. Families were given everything from meats like chicken to canned and boxed goods. This is the first year for the event.

"We wanted to bring it to the community where barriers and transportation, child care, things like that are a problem in the community. So we wanted to bring it here to them so they can step right out there front door and come right to it," said Athena King.

The American Cancer Society, Rhema Word Cathedral, Albany Housing Authority and Amerigroup all participated in the "Time to give back."
