ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A south Georgia woman who was in the Philippines when the country was pounded by Typhoon Haiyan says people there need our help.

The typhoon hit a week ago and killed several thousand people. Tift County's Lori Baker was North of where Haiyan hit on a mission trip to take food and blankets to the homeless. She returned on Wednesday.

Baker experienced three typhoons and one earthquake during her stay. She says the majority of people there don't have insurance and have no means to rebuild. "When the devastation hit that's it they lose it all they have nothing. It just brings back to reality how much we take for granted that we have, the luxuries we have here as being Americans that they don't have over there in a 3rd world country."

Baker saw families living on the streets and young children only covered only by cardboard for shelter and warmth. To join Baker in her effort to help those in need you can email her at lorigbaker@yahoo.com
