VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Students, staff and curious citizens were on hand this afternoon as VSU unveiled its new solar panel array outside the campus library.

Michael Noll is an associate professor in the geo science department at VSU and helped the SAVE student organization make the solar panel array a reality.

"This is a wonderful moment. A very important first step for Valdosta Sate University as students faculty and staff are working together to build a campus basically that is based on, uh, sustainability that will maximize energy efficiency and conservation," Noll said.

The president of VSU also spoke, along with the vice president of Hannah Solar, the company that installed the solar panels.

Sustainability was the theme at this celebration, and that's what Noll says SAVE is all about.

"It will help us to, uh, have an impact in terms of increases in renewable energy production while lowering carbon dioxide emissions as we're weaning ourselves slowly but surely from fossil fuels," Noll added.

And that will be good for the environment and should be good for the university's bottom line as well.
