LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

A Southwest Georgia radio station is working with a homeless relief organization to collect food for people in need this Thanksgiving.

As of 3:00 Friday, Jaxon Riley told WALB that they have nearly a ton of food, with several hours left in the campaign.

Rock 103 partnered with the Albany Rescue Mission for the annual Can Do food drive.  They're collecting food and donations at the Winn Dixie in Lee County until 6pm, and will hold a cookout Saturday morning from 10am – 2pm to raise more money.

Organizers hope to beat last year's turnout. "For us it's the same every year," said John Blake, Rock 103 Program Manager.  "There's people that are in need.  There's people that don't have warm jackets or coats.  You can see... you know, just go downtown in Albany.  You'll see people walking around that are obviously in need.  So we need to help out those people."

Blake said the person or group that donates the most food will win a catered celebration at the Wynfield plantation for 50 people.  He said the Rescue Mission needs cash, food and clothing.
