Homeless dog taken in by the Lowndes Co. Animal Shelter
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
BARC is hosting a 5K run on Saturday where the proceeds will go to the Humane Society.
Race organizers say the shelter is constantly overcrowded, something they need the public's help to overcome, which is why they're hosting the 5K.
"We're doing the 5K to kind of raise money for the BRAC Homeless society and also bring awareness to the community for the homeless pets," said race organizer Michelle Williams.
Debbie Rumker, CEO of BARC, says the saddest part is actually all of the homeless pets, but also that more people aren't coming out to adopt these pets in need.
"The saddest part is not even coming out," Rumker said.
"It's a never ending story," said Williams. "You get one out and five more are there to take it's place."
Bodyworks Family Fitness and Anytime Fitness are sponsoring Saturday's race.
The race is being held at 1605 Azalea St. in Valdosta. Runners can register the day of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. Dogs in the BRAC homeless society will be available for adoption.
