Mom arrested in son's drowning

VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX)-- An Indian River County mother has been arrested in connection with the drowning of her three-year-old son Dakota in July.

Summer Stiles, 34, faces a manslaughter charge.

The body of her son, Dakota, was found lifeless in the family's dark, murky swimming pool on 14th Avenue in Vero Beach on July 25, 2013.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office says Stiles "failed to secure the pool area of the yard from Dakota's access in spite of his history of wandering."

The sheriff's office also said that cardboard covering a bedroom window was the only thing that kept the area of the pool secure from the child's access.

Deputies arrested Stiles and booked her into the Indian River County Jail. She faces one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child and is being held on $50,000 bond.
