AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Some people in Americus are hoping to create a new charter school.

They believe the Furlow Charter School would improve the quality of education in Sumter County.

But getting the school approved is not an easy task.

"We will start with kindergarten and go to the 8th grade. Every year after we are going to add another year so the petition period is a five-year period we would be chartered for five-years initially by the end of that five-years we will be k-12," said Elizabeth Kuipers Member of the Founding Board of Furlow Charter School.

Board members are in the process of writing a petition to the local board of education and hope to have it submitted by March 1st.
