THOMSON, GA (WFXG) -

A 16-year-old boy is accused of fatally stabbing a family member early Wednesday morning in Thomson, according to the GBI.

Quintavious Roberts is being charged as an adult with murder, authorities said. He is accused of stabbing his relative, 38-year-old Reginald Roberts, to death.

Reginald Roberts' body was found at 336 Manassas Drive just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to the GBI.

George Jenkins lives on the same street where his cousin Reginald Roberts was stabbed; he's struggling to understand why he was killed.

"When you lose somebody close, it's just one of those things where it doesn't sit well with you," Jenkins said. "You have anger and then you have sadness, you've got mixed emotions."

He's also trying to understand why a teenager is charged with his death.

Reginald Roberts lived south of Thomson on Wrens Highway.

Jenkins said Reginald Roberts was killed while he was visiting his sister's home on Manassas Drive.

Authorities are still investigating Roberts' death to learn what caused the fatal stabbing.

Quintavious Roberts is charged as an adult with murder and possessing a knife during a crime. Jenkins knew the boy and thinks his life ended with the stabbing, too.

"He just wasted his life," Jenkins said. "When it comes down to people dying and violence, it should've never come down to that."

Reginald Roberts' body was taken to Atlanta for an autopsy.

Quintavious Roberts will be booked into the Augusta Youth Detention Center.

When the investigation is completed the case will be turned over to the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, according to the GBI.
