ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Advocacy Resource Center Tuesday night said thanks to its supporters and the people with disabilities it serves.

The executive director of the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation agency was the keynote speaker at the group's 35th annual awards dinner. Greg Schmieg praised Albany ARC's decades of service to the community. "Sometimes we think of Georgia as Atlanta and the rest of the state, but Albany has so much going for it because of the ARC and all of the great work they have done for the past 50 years. It's really remarkable."

Gloria Smith was named Volunteer of the Year for teaching sewing classes for ARC consumers.

125 of those consumers earned Miss Annette's Shining Star Awards handed out by longtime director Annette Bowling.
