THOMAS COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia State Patrol is investigating a large crash in Thomas county where officials say three semi-trucks were involved in a crash.

Authorities say it happened around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday on the 319 Bypass at the intersection of county Line Road.

According to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office, three semi-trucks were traveling in the same lane on the Bypass when one in the rear hit another, causing a chain reaction crash of all three.

Crews at the scene say the driver of the truck that first collided with the others was taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on the driver's condition.

Officials say the first truck was also carrying food, which must now be investigated by the Department of Agriculture to determine if it is for consumption.

There was no word on whether any charges would be filed.
