Veterans line up for free meals

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Military veterans packed Albany's Golden Corral Monday night.

It was one of many restaurants that offered deals to current and former service members on Veterans Day.

This was Golden Corral's 13th annual Military Appreciation dinner. It's something veterans and workers at the chain look forward to. Restaurant General Manager Mark Allen said, "The comments we've been getting tonight is, 'man we appreciate it. Thank y'all very much. This means a lot to us.' And my response back is, you know, is what you've done for us has meant a lot to us."

Retired Marine Theodore Freels said the event provided great food and great fellowship. "I enjoyed today. The food was great. It was awesome, and the company was very outstanding," he said.

Last Veterans Day, the restaurant chain served free meals to 375,000 vets and active service members and raised $1.2 million for the Disabled American Veterans organization.
