Hotels near Savannah's airport hit with car break-ins

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport Police are investigating after thieves smashed the windows of about a dozen cars late Sunday night at the Holiday Inn Express and nearby hotels.

Airport spokeswoman Lori Lynah says investigators believe it was the work of drifters, who travel up and down I-95 and hit exits like the one for Savannah's airport, looking for hotels with full parking lots.

Airport police could be seen Monday night patrolling parking lots of the hotels near the airport. Lynah said they've been working overtime.

WTOC spoke with one Holiday Inn guest who'd just checked in and said he wasn't warned about the break-ins.

"Having told me what you told me, I'm going to be moving my vehicle up front where there's an attendant," Ronnie Dozier said. "I do see the authorities, they travel through the lots, but they can only do so much."
