ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany city workers are getting downtown ready for the holidays. They're putting up Christmas lights that will be turned on right before Thanksgiving.

It's a tradition in Albany that dates back at least 70 years. The lights will stay up until New Year's Day.

"I think it gets us all in the spirit. I think each community wants to be proud of how they celebrate Christmas. It just puts you in the frame of mind that you are ready for Christmas," says Lorie Farcas, with marketing.

The Monday after Thanksgiving workers will put up the Christmas Tree Downtown, which will be lit at a ceremony before the 23rd Annual Holiday parade on December 7th.
