World War II monument unveiled at Veterans Park

Dozens of people gathered at Veterans Park in downtown Albany today for the unveiling of a new World War II monument.

The ceremony began with a prayer and the singing of the national anthem.

Later members of the American Legion unveiled the new granite monument honoring local World War Two veterans.

"You know there was some sixteen million men and woman that served our country during WWII and now we are down to just a very few million of those and fortunately we have a good number of those men with us today for this memorial ceremony," says Marvin Mixon, with the American Legion Post 30.

Mayor Dorothy Hubbard took part in today's ceremony.  It took about two years to raise about 20-thousand dollars to pay for the monument.
