TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Peanut Commission is doing its part to promote November as National Peanut Butter Month. Holiday entertaining and tailgate parties are part of the month long celebration.

The commission has recipes for peanut butter cookies, peanut butter pies, even edible peanut butter play dough for kids. Leaders say peanut butter is an essential part of a child's diet.

"Peanut butter is one of the finest foods that you can have because it's high in protein, it's high in energy, it's a well balanced food, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a glass of milk is a perfect meal," said Don Koehler, Georgia Peanut Commission Executive Director.

More than 70% of peanuts grown in the Southeast go into making peanut butter.
