ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

J. D. Lankford, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War from Broxton, GA, was honored on Veteran's Day by (from left) Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital volunteer chaplain and veteran George Campbell, Intensive Care Unit Director Ernest Shock, and Phoebe's Chief Operating Officer Joe Austin.

Mr. Lankford was a patient in Phoebe's Intensive Care Unit, where the staff learned that he was a decorated veteran and a former WWII POW, whose service he wrote about in his book Walk With Me.

The hospital staff had a special card made that included an American flag and all of their signatures.

Phoebe also honored U.S. veterans by holding a moment of silence and meditation at 2:30 p.m.
