NEWTON, GA (WALB) -

The Baker County Community Council collects 300 signatures to recall three of its Board of Education members.

Council members held a press conference Friday on the courthouse steps presenting the Baker County election superintendent with three applications to have Sharon Heard, Brenda King and Chasity Moye recalled from the Board of Education.

They are accusing the board of members of not following board meeting rules, firing experienced teachers,  hiring school officials with no educational background, and misappropriation of funds that they say will cost tax payers more money.

Members say this is in the best interest for their students education. "We'll keep pushing forward until we see what needs to happen in our school system because first is our children's education," said Chairperson Janet Anderson.

The election supervisor says it will take five days to review the applications to determine if a petition is to be issued for the recall.
