CLAY COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A school bus crashed killed a man and injured nine students in Clay County Thursday afternoon.

Georgia State Troopers say 76 year-old Joseph Hammack was killed when his GMC Sierra pickup truck slammed into the back of a bus on Georgia Highway 1 just south of Highway 37 shortly after 4:00 p.m.

The bus was stopped to let students off. Nine children on the bus suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital in Cuthbert.

The state trooper investigating the crash says Hammack never hit his brakes, and he may have been suffering a health problem.

He was not wearing his seat belt.
