ASU students get fire safety lessons

Albany State University students learned about fire safety Tuesday afternoon.

The Albany Fire Department stopped by two dorms to give students safety tips, including how to use a fire extinguisher. They taught students how to aim, squeeze, and sweep at the base of the fire.

Fire Safety Inspector Gwendolyn Jennings said, "The most important thing is knowing how to get out wherever you are. Using a fire extinguisher is good to know, however, if you ever have a fire, you need to get out. You worrying about people breaking in, you need to worry about how you going to break out."

Firefighters will visit other ASU dorms later this week. The Albany Fire Department also puts on events like this at nursing homes and other venues throughout the year.
